Three D Traffic Works is a long-standing innovator and leader in highway safety. We continue to set and achieve goals that result in the ultimate traffic safety and ADA-compliant products. No other manufacturer goes as far as we do when it comes to safety and recyclable products.
Our products are primarily distributed through highway safety sales and rental houses, construction and safety supply outlets, as well as catalog sales. Three D Traffic Works utilizes an extensive distributor network located throughout the United States and Canada.
Three D Plastics, Inc. is a family-owned and operated company and the parent company of Three D Traffic Works. Founded in 1968, the foundation of the company is in contract injection molding to meet the design needs of its customers. However, overseas competition over the years eroded margins and new business opportunities. That’s when the company began looking into the development of innovative and proprietary plastic products. As a result, we operate principally in two industry segments:
1) Contract Injection Molding To meet the requirements of specific clients
2) Proprietary Traffic Control And Safety Products The traffic control and safety products are currently marketed under the name Three D Traffic Works.
In the early 1990's, Three D Plastics developed a line of plastic landscape drainage products, forming a new company, American Drainage Products, which sold products through distributors and sales representatives. This business was responsible for cultivating many contacts within the retail and wholesale markets that proved invaluable to the current business model. After six years of manufacturing drainage products, American Drainage Products was purchased by its main competitor, NDS.
Contacts associated with American Drainage Products introduced Three D Plastics to an inventor who required help in designing and developing a plastic folding sawhorse. The plastic folding sawhorse was taken to market and is credited with creating a new category in the retail hardware industry that currently exceeds $100 million in sales annually.
During this period, Three D Plastics concentrated on developing the plastic folding sawhorse business for a new company called Storehorse Inc. Design, tooling and manufacturing for Storehorse was all located at our Burbank, Calif., facility. At its peak, the company was manufacturing over 500,000 plastic sawhorses a year for Storehorse. Eventually, Storehorse was sold to Lehigh Industries and the manufacturing was relocated to an East Coast facility.
In 1999, Three D Plastics designed and developed a new proprietary product line for the traffic safety industry. Because of the company's experience with manufacturing the plastic folding sawhorse, we were approached by vendors in the traffic safety industry to develop a folding plastic barricade. In the early 1990's, the Federal Highway Administration had begun promoting the use of plastic traffic safety devices on the National Highway System (NHS). The industry was dissatisfied with the current models of plastic barricades available and was hungry for a durable and inexpensive product to satisfy the demands of the work environment and the wishes of the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).
And that is the birth of Three D Traffic Works.
